This is a proposed moderated discussion to include representatives from open source textbook providers, textbook publishers, writer/instructional designers, and continuing education instructors.
Does it make sense for the future hold an armful of textbooks when each are only partially used? Many new textbook providers are using open source fundamentals to create textbooks for download or purchase that only include the content relevant to the curriculum or course objectives, shaving off irrelevant content making them lighter, more streamlined textbooks.
How does this benefit the learner? How does this shape the future of instructional design? What is the impact on the textbook publishing industry?
